Little Thor

I did the grade for the new Marvel/Paramount viral for the new film 'Thor'.
The project saw me and Matt Golding working until the early hours of the morning but it was all worth it as Marvel signed the grade off straight away. I had to replicate the grade for the Volkswagen's Darth Vader Super Bowl ad as close as possible and trust me it is easier said then done. I am very pleased with the end result and the viral is having great hits. Have a look!

Here are some examples of the Special Effects I can do.
It's a mixture of motion graphics, green screen/compositing, tracking, 3D, morphing and more.

Enjoy!

Eliminate: Archie Cookson

Last year I edited the feature film: 'Eliminate: Archie Cookson'. It was shot on RED and my role stated from archiving and converting the rushes to offline format, to creating the edit with the director Rob Holder and producer Ioanna Karavela.

It developed my creative storytelling skills as well as making me even more organised (dealing with 4TB worth of footage requires meticolous labelling and list ticking). It was a wonderful project that gave me the chance to work with an extremely talented team and create something to be truly proud of.

I just received the good news that 'Eliminate:Archie Cookson' is going to be premiered at Minghella Festival http://bit.ly/hyNffO

If you are going to festival and want to see a very gripping story then it will be shown on Sunday the 13th of March at 18.30.

Felix's Machine

I got asked to re-grade most of this project as most of the shots needed a complex grade involving motion tracking masks to panning shots, applying different grades to different parts of the shots etc.
It was a challenging and very fun project. The short video shows the inspirational work of Felix in a very artistic way and I highly recommend anyone who is in London on Wednesday to have a look at the premiere of the video in the Apple Store in Covent Garden

I can't release the video yet but I can show you couple of stills to give you an idea of the grade.

Before:

After: Different masks to hide the wires and stands while keeping the overall grade persistent. Highlighting metals and give it a overall warmer, more filmic feel.

Before:

After: Shifting the focus on the machine parts in the lower right part of the frame by selective darkening of the middle section

Grading with vWave-Lite

My latest project involved grading the new Jenna G music video for her new song "Flood of emotions". For this project I have tried for the first time the control panel for the Ipad called vWave-Lite (made by Tangent). I have used the physical interface Wave during one of the BBC training days in Color and during my training in BaseLight at Splice. I tried for myself how easier grading is when you are not constricted by the mouse and can perform different adjustments at the same time. The only problem is the price of the control panel. Even though Tangent offers a very competitive budget, it is still a considerable investment.

Tangent recently released a simpler version of Wave for the Ipad and it is fantastic. Yes, it will never replace the actual console and I had to get used to the sensitivity of the virtual console, but this allows you to carry on multiple actions at once and this is essential when grading. Dealing with blacks, mids and whites separately gives different results than dealing with them at the same time. The image reacts differently and the work feels less constrictive, therefore it can become more creative.

This control panel made my job quicker, easier but most importantly more accurate. It helped me to test different options in a more efficient way. I always want to achieve the best with each grade and it certainly helped me in doing so.

The grade for the video is waiting for approval but it will be up soon. Watch this space.
